ancient china

I was in ancient China serving as a loyal attendant for one of the many brothers of the emperor. Our palace was under attack by a rival brother and we were barricading ourselves in the great hall in a feeble attempt to keep the intruders out. We even dressed up another servant in the clothes of the emperor’s brother in the hopes to confuse the attackers. Eventually, the intruders broke through our defenses and started slaughtering the guards. I lost all hope but still picked up my sword to fight. I was slashed all over and fell to the ground. I was surprised that I was still alive and that the injuries I sustained didn’t bother me all that much. This gave me hope and I picked up my sword again and fought back with a renewed sense of confidence and was able to fend off several attackers. But out of no where, a spear came flying into the hall, killing the servant that was dressed up as the emperor’s brother. Everyone paused.

There was a loud horn from the outside and the Emperor storms in followed by several of his brothers. I dropped to my knees and bowed along with everyone else in the great hall. The fighting was called off, and the emperor starts scolding the brother that ordered that attack and told him how disappointed he was. He could not believe how serious the internal conflict has been, and warns everyone that if anything like this ever happens again he will take some serious action. I was still on the ground, bowing and bleeding from my wounds. I felt that I deserved some recognition for my efforts in serving and protecting the emperor’s brother, but I did not get any. I passed out from the loss of blood.
